More Than You Can Chew is an extremely mature and frank look at eating disorders and one family's dysfunctional way of coping with life. Marty is a teenage girl with a severe eating disorder. After she admits that she needs help, Marty's parents send her to Camp Eat-a-Lot with hopes that she will recover and lead a healthy life. During her stay there, Marty befriends an eight-year-old named Lily who is anorexic. Through Lily, Marty realizes how her illness and actions have affected those around her, and most importantly, how their actions have affected her. She also learns that even though her parents are not perfect, they do want to help her and they are doing it the only way they know how. In this semi-autobiographical novel, Marnelle Tokio did not spare the reader any details in the telling of Marty's story.

Tokio's More Than You Can Chew is a mature novel written with humour, truth and honesty.
