There is, however, a book called Made You Look: How Advertising Works and Why You Should Know by Shari Graydon, with illustrations by Warren Clark. Made You Look is itself a look at advertising.

Shari Graydon explores the origins of advertising from one of the earliest, most rudimentary forms -- merchants bellowing their products at passersby -- to the elaborate and unharnessed medium of the Internet. Along her clever journey, the author also aims for the funny bone, capturing the hyperbole of some product sellers. For example, a paper company once told consumers that "A single contact with inferior toilet tissue may start the way for serious infection -- and a long and painful illness."

Warren Clark complements the text with first-class work: colourful, physical, motion-filled drawings.

Made You Look is an informative, delightful visit into the often whimsical world of advertising, an understandable book for young readers and a smart, "Wanted-To-Look" read for adult consumers.
